This is the home page of Stephen Alsford
You will find here information on the urban history of medieval England, the role of the boroughs in national administration, and on aspects of life (and death) of the men and women who lived in English cities and towns during the Middle Ages, such as: trade and commerce, guilds, social behaviour, customs, law and order, government, politics, religion, entertainment, houses and furniture. Also included are a glossary of technical terms, biographies of citizens (merchants, craftsmen, lawyers, soldiers and others), brief histories and maps of selected towns, and numerous primary source documents (in translation), drawn not only from the larger towns such as London, York, Bristol and Norwich, but also from smaller ones like Maldon, Bridgwater, Winchelsea, Cirencester, and Andover.
If, however, you are looking a collection of my poetry, |
