Professional Handout Review by Jack Falt
Lawrence, Gordon, Your Results from the Myers-Briggs
Type Indicator®, Gainesville,
FL: Centre for Applications of Psychological Type, 2000, 2 pp, Practitioner’s
Guide, 2 pp
This one sheet, two-sided handout is designed to be used with Form M although
it can be used with the older Form G. Essentially, it is a way to give
the results of the MBTI® instrument in
a way that is consistent with the 1998 Manual. It gives a statement of
the meaning of each of the 8 preferences, and then has boxes to indicate
the actual letter response to each of the four dimensions of behaviour.
Below each box there is a space for the Personal Clarity Category, i.e.
slight, moderate, clear, or very clear. This has been done to emphasise
that the results only measure preference rather than the strength of a
preference.
There are also paragraphs on “What the results mean” and “Validate your
reported type.” These give a simple, clear explanation of what the scores
mean and the necessity of doing more work to be sure to get a “Best Fit.”
On the back of the handout in table format are brief descriptions of
the 16 types taken from Gordon’s People Types and Tiger Stripes.
The two-page Practitioner’s Guide explains how to use the handouts and
gives the rational for showing scores in this way. It also has tables for
both Form M and Form G giving the values to use for the Preference Clarity
Categories.
This handout is a useful one that is simple for your clients to understand.
