Professional Handout Review by Jack Falt
Reid, Jean, Discovering Your Type, Gainesville,
FL: Centre for Applications of Psychological Type, 1982, 1999, 2 pp, Leader’s
Guide - 1 pp
This handout is designed to be used with the MMTIC®
(the MBTI® instrument for children). After
the indicator has been given and scored, but before the results are handed
back, children are led through the handout. As each dimension of preferences
is described, they are then asked to choose which letter is most like them.
There is a line that they can use to indicate the strength of their personal
assessment. There is also a place to indicate “Uncertain.” This is particularly
important with children when their preferences may not be as developed
as they will be in adulthood.
The results of the MMTIC are then given to the children, and they are
to write down what their results of the indicator are. They are to consider
what their best fit type is. They are also urged to continue in their self-evaluation.
With so many adults fitting in the undecided category, it is even more
important for children not to feel locked into a specific type.
The back of the handout includes a grid of the sixteen types, characteristics
of the four quadrants, and words describing the function pairs, all in
simpler language.
