Audio Cassettes Review by Jack Falt

Kroeger, Otto & Thuesen, Janet, Typewatching Tape Series: The Entertaining and Easy Way to Understand the Sixteen Different Personality Types, Fairfax, VA: Otto Kroeger Associates, 1985, 1995, 16 audio cassettes.

If you have been collecting Jung/Myers theory related books as I have, you probably have read quite a few different type descriptions by various authors. Have you ever listen to one? Otto and Janet produced this set of audio tapes quite a while ago and the tapes still catch the essence of each type.

Each tape is about twenty minutes in length. They include an original song about the type written in a jazz style that is sung at the beginning and the end of the tape. Then Otto and Janet discuss the type, giving general information about the type and how the type is as a family person and the careers they tend to follow.

At the last OAAPT 2000 Conference you could buy individual tapes as well as the whole set of 16. In the promotional material from Otto Kroeger Associates suggests that a manager, who is having some difficulties between two employees, might propose that each employee take the type tape of the other person and listen to it. Then the next day the manager could discuss the problem with them. Having heard how the other person reacts, often the problem is diminished to more manageable proportions. This same technique could be used in couple counselling.

A counsellor who is administrating the MBTI® instrument with individual clients could give the specific type tape to the client. This could be included in the overall fee.

The tapes are interesting to listen to. You might listen to the whole set one at a time on your daily commute to work.
