Video Review by Jack Falt

Kroeger, Otto, The Four Temperaments, Fairfax, VA: Otto Kroeger Associates, 1995, 4 Videos - 60 min. - (13 to 17 min. ea.)

Otto Kroeger fans will find this set of four short videos a treat, watching the master in action. This series is an expansion on the third part of his previous video Basic Three which looked at using temperament as a shortcut way of remembering details about the types. He bases his material on his own observations and the work of Keirsey in Please Understand Me.

The set comes as four videos and a small booklet on temperament. The booklet is material excerpted from Type Talk and Type Talk at Work. Having the separate videos allows you to present each temperament independently without having to search for it on a longer video tape. Kroeger uses his usual wit and anecdotes to present the material. People really enjoy his presentations. Each tape shows how the two letters of the temperament expand into the four Jung/Myers personality types. The quest for each temperament is described. Kroeger discusses how each temperament thinks, acts, reacts, their favourite mottoes, how they are in a relationship, as parents, and their theme song. In passing, as an ordained minister he lets us know the appropriate Gospel of the New Testament that applies to the temperament.

In each tape after the overall presentation, Kroeger shows how each group represents itself creatively. They used drawings, sculpture and mine to show how they saw their temperament.

This video set could be used as a temperament component of a longer Jung/Myers theory session, or it could be used as a stand-alone temperament program. Kroeger has some excellent exercises in his Typewatching ToolKit Software package. Voila! You have a full day workshop of fun and learning.

The only shortcoming of the video set was what was lacking in the accompanying booklet. What is there is excellent, but for the cost of this set it would have been a good idea if a few group exercises had been included.
